Art in Corona Times: Part 2
In this online exhibition series, stretching from 5th of December 2020 until the summer of 2021, the International Art Colony presents artworks by Colony artists created during the COVID19 pandemic. This worldwide health crisis has been having an enormous impact on our lives, let alone the lives of visual artists, who have been also faced with serious economic hardship due to the plague and its aftermath. With all the ensuing lock downs and restrictions, no doubt this unusual era will enter the pages of history. Seen from this perspective, we believe that it is important to document some of the byproducts of this crisis, focusing on the aesthetic manifestations of expression by some of our leading visual artists. For as Pankaj Tripathi has observed "across the world, wherever good art has been created, that society has been in crisis."

The second exhibition in this series to dedicated to artworks by Egyptian master M. Abouelnaga, titled: "Icons of Love In Corona Times”.
Shown for the first time, this comprehensive collection of small sized passionate artworks was created by the artist in Egypt during the COVID19 Pandemic, while being separated from his wife and family in Hungary, due to the various lock downs and air travel restrictions imposed in the aftermath of the Pandemic. Unable to see and hug his loved ones for a prolonged time, bits and fragments of almost lost memory aim to reunite in these sensually packed artworks. Inspired by the ancient Kama Sutra, Abouelnaga transfers the photo, the acrylic and the fragments of memory into layers on the rough surface of the wood.
Emphasizing how much his missing wife means to him, Abouelnaga discretely Inscribes into the portrait of his beloved wife the ankh or key of life - an ancient Egyptian hieroglyphic symbol to represent the word for "life".
His message in these mixed media masterpieces is persuasive and beautifully illustrated, elevating lust for love to near platonic heights. Never mind physical separation or geographical distances, because love must go on, even in the darkest of times, bringing liberation to the human flesh and salvation to the divine soul.
what a better way to celebrate Christmas and the holy holidays than to dive into the ocean of love.
M. Abouelnaga is an Egyptian visual artist living in Cairo, Egypt.

Icons of Love in Corona Times
“ I blend in these artworks the style of Arab, Persian and Indian Islamic manuscripts, as well as the Hindu Kama Sutra. Add to that fragments of pornographic materials that increased their viewing rate during the COVID19 imposed lock downs worldwide. For me personally, the lock down meant lack of contact with the human body. I introduce in some of these artworks my perception of the body within the icon of loss, a loss that has become a new reality ... a personal and a public one too. Despite COVID19 lock downs and the resulting physical separation, love most go on..."
